Biography: |
| | Born in 1963, in Maple Creek Sask., Karen does not remember when she was not drawing. Contributing factors of long cold winters, one TV station and two older brothers who would tickle her if they found her, she discovered her ability and love for drawing at an early age.
At age 10, classmates had Karen busy filling orders for hand drawn bookmarkers, at a cost of 5 cents each. That translated to 5 candies. Karen had a light bulb moment and realized, it was possible to do something she really enjoyed and be able to buy candy. That was a good thing! At age 15, she had her first public art show and sale. Her career as an Artist already begun, Karen studied in the Fine Arts dept. at the University of Calgary and attended a specialized school for photo retouching in Florida.
Karen has successfully pursued various art related entrepreneurial paths, while continuing to develop her style through painting the diverse landscape and wildlife of Western Canada. At 21 she started a photograph restoration and retouching business in Saskatoon, Sask. Relocating to Vancouver Island Karen designed and marketed a line of "Personal Touch" jewellery, featuring miniature paintings on earrings. Another relocation to Cranbrook BC saw Karen exchange her small brush for a much larger one to pursue a wide variety of theme murals for homes, businesses, and the College of the Rockies.
Experienced in watercolors, oils and pen & ink, Karen’s most recent paintings are created by a unique application of Gouache and Acrylic. Using a variety of subjects and an extensive palette, (favorite color being purple) Karen’s paintings are evolving from being representational, to ones that contain a deeper spiritual message, or story.
Inspired by natural beauty and following an inner peace that comes from doing what she loves, Karen continues to ardently paint. She resides in Sylvan Lake, AB, with her husband and daughters who all like to eat candy. |
